Zhang Jun, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, met with a delegation led by Igor Viktorovich Krasnov, chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, in Beijing on Oct 21.
Zhang extended a warm welcome to Krasnov and his delegation, noting that China and Russia are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. Zhang said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.
The China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era has continued to develop steadily under the guidance of the presidents of both countries, Zhang said, adding that the two countries' judicial authorities have maintained close exchanges. He expressed confidence that Krasnov's visit would further advance bilateral judicial cooperation and enrich the judicial dimension of the broader partnership between the two countries.
Focusing on topics of interest to the Russian side, Zhang outlined Chinese courts' experience in applying artificial intelligence in judicial proceedings, promoting uniform application of the law and training judges.
He said Chinese courts have adopted a prudent approach to using technology in adjudication and enforcement, developed the online Q&A platform and the People's Courts Case Database to promote consistent application of the law, and expanded international cooperation in judicial education and training. These efforts have helped improve the quality and efficiency of judicial work, he added.
China’s SPC stands ready to work with its Russian counterpart to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' heads of state and expand judicial cooperation, to make greater contributions to the development of both countries and to safeguarding international fairness and justice, Zhang said.
Krasnov thanked Zhang for the meeting, saying their substantive and productive discussions had laid a solid foundation for further practical cooperation. He expressed the hope that the two sides would take the meeting as an opportunity to implement the strategic consensus reached by the heads of the two states, translate the outcomes of their talks into concrete action, and deepen bilateral judicial cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
