At the invitation of the Supreme Court of Korea, Wang Shumei, a standing member of the Adjudication Committee of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of China, led a delegation, on behalf of Chief Justice and SPC President Zhang Jun, to attend the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, from Sept 17 to 18.

Wang delivered a speech on ensuring and promoting social fairness and justice through fair and impartial adjudication at the first session of the conference. She gave an overview of the practices of Chinese courts in upholding judicial fairness and justice, ranging from maintaining social stability, promoting high-quality development, and protecting people’s livelihoods, to advancing high-standard opening up, and enhancing governance efficiency. She also outlined progress in China’s judicial reform and the development of digital courts.

Chief justices, judges and judicial representatives from nearly 40 countries and regions across Asia and the Pacific, as well as representatives of more than 10 international organizations, attended the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference, Wang and her delegation held talks with Noh Kyung-pil, minister of the National Court Administration of the Republic of Korea. Both sides expressed the hope of continuing to deepen judicial exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and strengthening exchanges and mutual learning in areas including international commercial and maritime adjudication and digital transformation of judiciary.

Wang also had in-depth exchanges with participants from various countries to enhance mutual understanding and build consensus.
