Sun Zhenping, head of the Political Department of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, attended and addressed the opening ceremony of a legal aid training program for Belt and Road partner countries at the National Judges College in Beijing on July 24.
He extended a warm welcome to members of the legal and judicial communities from the participating countries.
Sun noted that since the major initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road was put forward in 2013, Belt and Road cooperation has delivered tangible benefits to more than 150 countries and played an important role in building a community with a shared future for humanity.
High-quality Belt and Road cooperation requires strong rule-of-law safeguards, Sun said.
China’s SPC has always valued its friendly cooperation with courts in Belt and Road countries and stands ready to build greater consensus through exchanges, promote common progress through mutual learning, and provide sustained rule-of-law support for a fairer and more equitable global governance system, Sun said.
Representatives of participants from Tanzania and The Gambia also delivered remarks. A total of 21 participants from five countries, along with officials from the National Judges College, attended the opening ceremony.
