Wang Shumei, a standing member of the Adjudication Committee of the Supreme People's Court, attended the opening ceremony of the 10th Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum and delivered a speech. The event was held in Ningbo, East China’s Zhejiang province, from May 26 to 28.
Hosted by the Ningbo municipal government, this forum was themed on resilient collaboration for a shared future.
Wang noted in her address that the global shipping and port industry is facing an increasingly complex environment amid rising trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainties.
At the same time, innovation-driven growth in the maritime economy is accelerating, with new business models and technologies emerging, she said, adding that the sector is increasingly characterized by deeper integration across industries and greater cross-sector collaboration.
Against this backdrop, she said, safeguarding the order of maritime transport and the stability of global supply chains, while supporting the high-quality development of new quality productive forces in the marine sector, has become an important task and mission for the judiciary in the new era.
Wang said that Chinese courts would continue to support high-standard opening-up and further enhance maritime adjudication capabilities and judicial efficiency.
Moreover, efforts would be made to safeguard the security of shipping routes and contribute to a safe, stable and efficient global shipping and logistics network, she noted.
Wang stressed that Chinese courts would remain committed to balancing adherence to established principles with innovation and improving judicial services in response to the digital transformation — thereby supporting the transformation and upgrading of the port and shipping sector.
She added that Chinese courts would advance international maritime judicial exchanges and cooperation in accordance with the vision of a maritime community with a shared future, promote mutually beneficial development under the Maritime Silk Road framework, and work with all parties to uphold a safe, orderly, fair and equitable international shipping ecosystem.
Representatives from the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Transport, relevant authorities from provinces and municipalities across China, as well as the International Maritime Organization, the International Association of Ports and Harbors, foreign government agencies and diplomatic missions in China attended the forum.
Representatives from port and maritime authorities, shipping and logistics companies, research institutions and consulting organizations from over 70 countries and regions also participated.
