Deng Xiuming, executive vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), met with a delegation led by Song Man-lei, president of the Court of Final Appeal of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), on May 26 in Kunming, capital of Southwest China’s Yunnan province.
Deng welcomed the delegation and noted that since Macao's return to the motherland, courts in the SAR have faithfully implemented the principle of “one country, two systems”, upheld the constitutional order established by the Constitution and the Basic Law of Macao SAR, and played an important role in maintaining Macao's long-term prosperity and stability.
He noted that 2026 is the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30). The Macao SAR government is making every effort to advance the formulation of the Third Five-Year Plan for Social and Economic Development of the Macao Special Administrative Region (2026–30), while proactively aligning itself with national development strategies, striving to open a new chapter in the high-quality advancement of the cause of “one country, two systems” with Macao characteristics, he added.
Deng expressed confidence that courts in Macao would continue to perform their duties in strict accordance with the law, improve judicial institutions and the quality and efficiency of judicial services, support the SAR government's efforts in enhancing governance capacity and effectiveness, and safeguard both the country's fundamental interests and the overall interests of the SAR.
For her part, Song thanked Deng for the meeting and expressed appreciation to the SPC and the Yunnan High People’s Court for their arrangements during the visit.
She said that courts in Macao have consistently upheld the principle of “one country, two systems” as well as the authority of the Constitution, fully and faithfully implemented the Basic Law and effectively enforced the law on safeguarding national security in the Macao SAR, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests.
She expressed hope to further strengthen cooperation with courts on the mainland in such areas as judicial assistance, professional training and personnel exchanges as well as to promote greater rule alignment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, so as to jointly contribute to the country's development of foreign-related rule of law.
At the invitation of the SPC, Song led a delegation of Macao judges and court officials on a visit to Yunnan from May 24 to 30. During the visit, the delegation visited Yunnan High People’s Court and several local courts and held a series of exchanges and discussions.
Mao Zhonghua, vice-president of the SPC, and Zhang Hongwei, president of the Yunnan High People’s Court, accompanied the delegation during parts of the visit.
