The opening ceremony of the ASEAN Judge Training Program was held at the National Judges College in Beijing on May 7. Sun Zhenping, head of the Political Department of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, attended and addressed the event.
In his remarks, Sun highlighted the growing momentum of cooperation between China and ASEAN countries under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and the four global initiatives, namely the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative. He noted that the China-ASEAN community with a shared future has become closer, while the comprehensive strategic partnership has yielded fruitful outcomes.
Sun said that China’s SPC highly values its close cooperation with the courts of ASEAN countries and is willing to take the training program as an opportunity to pool judicial wisdom, deepen regional judicial exchanges, and jointly provide stronger rule-of-law safeguards for regional and global stability and development.
Chittakone Bounpasong of the People's Supreme Court of Laos and Ni Putu Asih Yudiastri of the Jepara District Court of Indonesia delivered remarks at the event.
A total of 22 judges and judicial officials from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, along with representatives of the National Judges College, attended the opening ceremony.
