Zhang welcomed Tong and the delegation, noting that the central authorities have consistently attached great importance to Macao’s development. Over the past year, the Macao SAR government, under the leadership of Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai, has made new progress and achieved new results in various undertakings, Zhang said. He highlighted Macao’s firm commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, the smooth holding of the eighth Legislative Council election, and active participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
The Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR, he said, has lawfully exercised the powers conferred by the Basic Law, shouldered the important responsibility of safeguarding national security, and made significant contributions to Macao’s prosperity, stability and development.
Zhang noted that courts across the Chinese mainland are thoroughly implementing the guiding principles of this year’s two sessions and the resolution on the SPC work report. Efforts are being made to administer justice in a strict and impartial way, deepen judicial reform, advance the development of digital courts, and build a strong contingent of professionals for courts in the new era, so as to provide strong judicial support for high-quality economic and social development, according to Zhang.
He added that the SPC will align its work with the objectives of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), strengthen judicial service and safeguards, and work with the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR to fully and faithfully implement the “one country, two systems” principle, enhance law-based governance in Macao, and support the SAR in better integrating into and contributing to the country’s overall development. He expressed hope that the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR will continue to uphold the constitutional order established by the Constitution and the Basic Law, strictly perform its duties in accordance with the law, uphold fairness and justice, and contribute to Macao’s long-term prosperity and stability while supporting high-quality development with high-level security.
Tong thanked Zhang for the meeting. He said that the Public Prosecutions Office will resolutely implement the “one country, two systems” principle, firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, and uphold the rule of law and social stability in the SAR.
He added that the office will further strengthen cooperation with mainland judicial authorities in areas such as combating cross-border crimes and enhancing professional training, so as to support Macao in better integrating into and serving the country’s overall development.
Mao Zhonghua, vice-president of the SPC, along with officials from the SPC, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao SAR, also attended the meeting.
