SPC and MOJ ramp up efforts to improve dispute resolution

On Feb 4, the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) and the Ministry of Justice jointly convened a conference in Beijing to exchange experience in advancing the “Fengqiao Experience” in the new era and strengthening dispute resolution at the source. 

The meeting reviewed and shared practical achievements in preventing and resolving disputes through diversified mechanisms, aiming to advance the Peaceful China initiative and build the rule of law in China.

Wang Zhongming, vice-president of the SPC, and Wu Yanjun, vice-minister of justice, attended the conference and delivered speeches.

Wang noted that courts at all levels have adopted a proactive approach focused on early intervention and prevention, working closely with judicial administrative organs and mediation organizations to resolve a large number of disputes at the grassroots level and at an early stage. He stressed the need to support the standardized development of comprehensive governance centers, enhance guidance on mediation in accordance with the law, and improve information sharing, so as to build an integrated and collaborative dispute resolution framework and provide strong judicial support to advance Chinese modernization.

Wu stated that judicial administrative organs at all levels have worked closely with courts to identify and resolve disputes, effectively safeguarding social harmony and stability. He emphasized the importance of resolving grassroots disputes and those of public concern, enhancing the professional capacity of mediators, reinforcing institutional support and guidance, and expanding public awareness of mediation, in order to jointly advance mediation work in the new era.

Representatives from relevant departments of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, the SPC and the Ministry of Justice, as well as representatives from local courts, judicial administrative organs, mediators, and experts also attended the meeting. A series of publications on upholding the “Fengqiao Experience” in the new era, focusing on mechanisms, practices and approaches for preventing and resolving disputes, were also presented to the participants at the conference.
