Wang Shumei attends 5th China-Singapore Case Study Forum
The fifth China-Singapore Case Study Forum, jointly organized by the National Judges College (NJC) of China, the Judicial Cases Institute of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), was recently held at the NJC in Beijing with the approval of the SPC.
Wang Shumei, a standing member of the SPC's adjudication committee (vice-ministerial level), Justices See Kee Oon and Kwek Mean Luck of the Supreme Court of Singapore delivered the opening and closing addresses respectively.
Justices Philip Jeyaretnam and Andre Maniam of the Supreme Court of Singapore, together with Senior Judges Zhang Mei and Ma Xiaoxu of the Fourth Civil Division of the SPC, gave keynote speeches.
During the forum, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on the theme of judicial support for arbitration.
Wang noted that since its launch in 2021, the forum has evolved into a high-level platform for judicial exchanges and cooperation. The case studies at this session highlighted many commonalities in judicial review of international commercial arbitration, reflecting universal principles and prevailing trends in judicial supervision of arbitration.
She emphasized that Chinese courts will fully implement the newly revised Arbitration Law, continue to uphold the principle of “judicial support for arbitration,” and advance internationalized, high-quality development of arbitration through the issuance of judicial documents, the strengthening of judicial capacity building, and the establishment of more efficient and convenient mechanisms for cross-border judicial cooperation.
Wang also called for closer exchanges and cooperation between judges from both countries to foster an arbitration-friendly judicial environment. She encouraged both sides to further broaden cooperation channels, establish more effective mechanisms to facilitate cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards, and strengthen exchanges on the development of diversified dispute resolution mechanisms, so as to enhance the global appeal of arbitration in international commercial dispute settlement.
Nearly 100 representatives from the SPC, Chinese local courts, the NJC, the Supreme Court of Singapore, the State Courts, the Family Justice Courts, and the SAL attended the forum.
