Gao Xiaoli attends 7th meeting of China-Singapore Supreme Courts Joint Working Group
The seventh meeting of the China-Singapore Supreme Courts Joint Working Group was held at the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court in South China’s Guangdong province. Gao Xiaoli, vice-president of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of China, and Steven Chong, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore, attended the meeting.
Gao stressed that the joint working group, as a supporting mechanism of the China-Singapore Legal and Judicial Roundtable, plays a key role in implementing the consensus reached by the chief justices of the two countries and promoting bilateral judicial cooperation. This year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, presenting new opportunities for China-Singapore judicial cooperation, Gao noted. She expressed hope that both sides would leverage the joint working group meeting to actively prepare for the ninth roundtable meeting and further advance practical judicial cooperation.
Chong noted that since the establishment of the Singapore-China Legal and Judicial Roundtable mechanism, the two countries have achieved a series of fruitful outcomes in judicial exchanges and cooperation. He expressed his expectation that the supreme courts of the two countries will continue to deepen their collaboration and achieve further progress.
From Aug 27 to 28, Gao and the Singaporean Supreme Court delegation also visited the First Circuit Court of the SPC, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, the Shenzhen Qianhai Cooperation Zone People’s Court, and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration. Zhao Juhua, president of the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, and heads of relevant departments of the SPC also participated in the visits.
