The national seminar for justices concluded at the National Judges College in Beijing on July 22. Zhang Jun, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), attended the closing session, and Deng Xiuming, vice-president of the SPC, delivered the closing remarks.

At the closing session, seven justices delivered keynote speeches on a range of topics including upholding the absolute leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on adjudication work, practices and observations on implementing the criminal policy of combining leniency with severity, and suggestions on the reform of the jurisdiction system for administrative cases.

Zhang provided feedback on their speeches and outlined expectations for their future work.

In his closing remarks, Deng stressed that courts at all levels must align their thinking and actions with the CPC Central Committee's decisions, comprehensively and systematically grasp the goals and tasks of strengthening adjudication work in the new era, and shoulder political, legal, and judicial responsibilities with concrete actions to ensure full implementation.

He underscored the need to effectively safeguard national security and social stability, make solid efforts in the prevention of disputes at the source through diversified resolution, substantive resolution of public complaints, and risk prevention and mitigation in key areas.

It is essential to enhance adjudication management in line with judicial principles, leverage performance indicators to identify hidden problems, and consolidate progress in concluding pending cases, said Deng. He urged courts nationwide to ensure a balanced conclusion of cases throughout the year and deepen standardized judicial transparency.

While highlighting the need to promote digital development in judicial work, he also emphasized the need for standardizing enforcement practices.

He further emphasized the importance of advancing the special campaign to regulate enterprise-related law enforcement and administration of justice, advocating for the equal protection of rights under the law, upholding strict and impartial justice, and promoting a culture of civility and goodwill in judicial practices.

Deng called for strictly adhering to the eight-point decision on improving work conduct, and maintaining a zero-tolerance approach towards judicial corruption.
