On the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Civil Code, the Supreme People’s Court has released the first batch of typical cases on implementing the Civil Code, highlighting how courts are using the law to uphold traditional Chinese virtues and promote core socialist values.
Over the past five years, Chinese courts have actively implemented the Civil Code by combining legal judgments with ethical considerations. Through consistent application of the law, courts have worked to promote core socialist values, guiding individuals and organizations to actively practice these principles in civil and social life.
The released cases feature real-life judgments centered on moral principles such as courage, filial piety, integrity, and respect for the elderly. These cases demonstrate how Chinese courts integrate legal reasoning with cultural values, ensuring that the law not only resolves disputes but also shapes a more ethical and compassionate society.
Courts nationwide remain committed to advancing the full implementation of the Civil Code, leveraging judicial decisions to guide public conduct and foster a culture of integrity, harmony, and civility.
