Yang Wanming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, met with a delegation of judges and judicial officers from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) at Sichuan Judges College in Chengdu, capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Nov 4.

In talks with the Hong Kong delegation, Yang expressed the hope that the judicial authorities of HKSAR would leverage Hong Kong's strengths to serve the country's needs and foster greater collaboration with courts on the Chinese mainland to contribute to the development of the rule of law based on the principle of "one country, two systems".

He emphasized that the rule of law is the most prized practice of HKSAR government, with its judicial institutions playing a pivotal role in upholding the region's broader framework.

Yang called on Hong Kong's judicial bodies to embrace their mission of safeguarding national security and defending the rule of law, urging them to fully utilize the institutional advantages of "one country, two systems".

He also urged them to improve mechanisms to enable Hong Kong to play a greater role in the country's opening-up, and to promote Hong Kong's prosperity in a bid to make greater contributions to building a strong country and realizing national rejuvenation.
