Intl judicial partnership urged to promote green development of Belt and Road
Yang Wanming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court of China, has called for international cooperation between China and Central Asian countries to promote the green development of the Belt and Road.
Yang made the remarks when participating in thematic discussions on enhancing judicial cooperation in the environment and resources fields to promote green and low-carbon development on the sidelines of the Meeting of Presidents of Supreme Courts of China and Central Asian Countries in Urumqi, capital city of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Sept 24.
In his address, Yang highlighted the efforts of Chinese courts in strengthening the adjudication of cases related to environment and resources, as well as the experiences and achievements accumulated in doing so.
He emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in environmental protection, saying that Chinese courts have always prioritized ecological conservation in adjudication work.
They have deepened judicial reform, forming the most extensive and comprehensive adjudication system for the protection of the environment, and advancing capacity building for adjudicating environment and resources-related cases, he said.
Efforts have also been made to continuously improve the legal application rules in this field to achieve better value realization of ecological products, according to Yang. Regional judicial coordination has been strengthened, and equal importance has been attached to case-handling and local governance, guiding the whole society to play a part in the building of a Beautiful China, he added.
Noting that building a global community with a shared future for all life on Earth is a common responsibility and mission for all humanity, Yang expressed the commitment of Chinese courts to enhancing international judicial exchanges and cooperation, sharing judicial experiences and achievements for the benefit of global environmental protection.
Chinese courts are willing to deepen international cooperation with various countries in environmental judicial protection, and work together to promote green development of the Belt and Road, contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, he added.
