Zhang Jun, president of the Supreme People's Court of China, has called for more exchanges between the judicial authorities of China and Cuba, with the aim of providing strong judicial support for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, as well as the building of a community with a shared future.

Zhang made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing on Sept 25 with a Cuban delegation led by the country's Attorney General Yamila Peña Ojeda.

During the meeting, Zhang highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Cuba, saying that the two countries are trustworthy friends, like-minded comrades, and good brothers who stand together through thick and thin. 

He emphasized the continuous enhancement of the traditional friendship between the two nations, citing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state on jointly building a China-Cuba community with a shared future, which has set the course for the further development of bilateral relations.

While outlining the work of Chinese courts to the Cuban guests, Zhang emphasized the significant progress China has made in the development of the rule of law over the past 40-plus years of reform and opening-up. 

Chinese courts have always adhered to the people-centered development philosophy, and striven to ensure that the people experience fairness and justice in every judicial case, he said, adding that this aligns with the principles and practices of Cuba's judicial authorities in serving the people.

Zhang said he hoped that both sides would enhance exchanges and mutual learning, and promote pragmatic cooperation to provide judicial services for advancing the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future.

Ojeda praised the achievements of China's courts in judicial reform and the application of information technology, expressing gratitude for the continuous support and assistance provided by the Chinese judicial authorities.

She said she hoped to leverage this visit to further strengthen exchanges with China's judicial authorities in areas such as cybersecurity, judicial protection for juveniles, and cracking down on financial and drug-related crimes, to boost momentum for the development of bilateral relations.
