Yang Wanming attends 6th meeting of China-Singapore supreme courts joint working group
The 6th meeting of the China-Singapore supreme courts joint working group was held in Singapore on Sept 4. Yang Wanming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, and Steven Chong, justice of appeal of the Supreme Court of Singapore, attended the meeting.
Yang said that, guided by the new positioning of China-Singapore relations, the outcomes of the 7th China-Singapore Legal and Judicial Roundtable have been fully implemented, with bilateral cooperation continuously expanded and cooperation mechanisms deepened. Noting that this meeting would lay a solid foundation for the upcoming 8th roundtable to be held next month, Yang said China’s SPC would continue the endeavor of deepening bilateral cooperation that is comprehensive, high-quality and forward-looking, join hands with the Singaporean side to explore cooperation in judicial fields, and make new contributions to the continuous development of China-Singapore relations.
Chong reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation since the signing of the memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation in 2017, and revealed arrangements for the 8th roundtable. He said he hoped that the top courts of both countries would maintain close communications, engage in proactive discussions on future judicial cooperation, and jointly strive for new development in judicial undertakings in both countries.
The two sides also discussed advancing the implementation of the signed MOUs and promoting more pragmatic judicial cooperation.
