Tao Kaiyuan, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, met with Christophe Bernasconi, secretary general of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), in Beijing on Sept 18.

Tao said that since joining the organization, China has been growing together with the HCCH through exchanges. China's SPC highly appreciates the work of the HCCH in promoting judicial cooperation and the circulation of civil and commercial judgments, and will, as always, support cooperation under the HCCH framework, she said. The SPC is willing to facilitate domestic research on the Hague Convention on Choice of Courts Agreements and the Hague Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters, and welcomes more litigants in choosing Chinese courts to resolve disputes, she added.

Bernasconi extended his appreciation for the meeting and lauded the achievements of Chinese courts in information-based development and implementation of the convention. He also expressed his hope that China's SPC would continue to support the HCCH's efforts in unifying the rules for Private International Law.
