Yang Linping, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, met a group from the European environmental organization ClientEarth, headed by Dimitri De Boer - the organization's regional director of programmes in Asia, on Sept 16.

Yang welcomed the group's visit and said that China attaches great importance to ecological civilization, and that Chinese courts are fully tapping their judicial roles, reinforcing trials on environmental resources-related cases and enhancing judicial protection of the ecological environment. Efforts were also made to promote international judicial cooperation on environment issues and contribute Chinese judicial wisdom to the building of a shared community of human and nature, according to Yang.

Yang said that China's SPC has enjoyed a long-term friendly relationship with ClientEarth and hopes for closer cooperation in holding high-level international seminars on environmental laws to strengthen experience sharing and jointly contribute to global ecological governance.
