Zhou, also secretary of the leading Party members’ group of the SPC, paid tribute to and thanked members of the Advisory Committee for their contributions to the progress in the judicial sector and the undertakings they have made.
As the advisory body for the SPC's decision-making, the Advisory Committee is a key consultant for the SPC in implementing the Party's policies, as well as a think-tank for the SPC in issuing judicial policies and interpretations and supervising local courts' work, Zhou said, adding that since its establishment, the committee has focused on survey and consultancy work as well as innovating working methods in a bid to contribute wisdom to judicial reforms and development. Over the past five years, the committee members have carried out field surveys at grassroots level units and been engaged in self-improvement, which led to new achievements in supervision as well as guidance and regulation establishment, he noted.
Zhou briefed the committee members on the courts' recent work and urged them to continue fulfilling their responsibilities to achieve the high-quality development of the courts work, and to give full play to their veteran experience to make their consultation work more forward-looking, effective and targeted. He also expressed his hope that they will further connect with the people, share good rule-of-law stories in China, and solicit opinions from all walks of life so that wisdom and strength from all parts of society can be pooled together in the development of judicial undertakings.
Zhou also urged courts at all levels to learn from the survey results of the committee to improve their work, to support the committee’s work by providing strong services and guarantee measures, and to strive to provide more comprehensive services for the retired cadres so that they can enjoy retirement and continue serving the country.
