BEIJING -- Chinese courts completed nearly 50,000 cases overdue for more than one year in the last two months in a national campaign targeting eliminating protracted cases, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) said Friday.

Statistics from the SPC showed, from January to August, courts at all levels in China accepted nearly 23.4 million cases of various kinds, including 89,500 cases that had not been concluded for more than one year.

The SPC has vowed to enhance the management of the time limits for trials. Those who violate the time limits and delay the case handling shall be held accountable in accordance with discipline and regulations, the top court added.
