BEIJING -- The number of trials livestreamed by Chinese courts crossed the 10-million threshold on Friday, according to authorities.

The 10 millionth trial was livestreamed by a court specializing in the handling of environmental and resource-related cases in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province.

Official statistics show that the website on which trials are livestreamed has seen more than 30 billion visits since it was launched in 2016. More than 3,500 courts nationwide are now able to stream trials via the website.

The Supreme People's Court is working to further clarify case categories suitable for livestreaming, so as to better protect the privacy of individuals as well as confidential business matters, said Supreme People's Court official Zhao Jinshan.
