Courts in China received more cases in the first quarter of 2019 than in that of last year, data from the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) showed.

Eight hundred and sixty-two more new cases were received by courts nationwide, an increase of 12.78 percent compared with the same period last year.

Courts in South China's Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces and Central China's Henan province received over 500,000 new cases respectively, said Li Liang, director of the trial management office of the SPC.

In the meantime, cases heard and closed were also on the rise, increasing by 20.54 percent compared with the first quarter of 2018.

Deepening judicial reform, trial supervision and administration, and court informatization contributed to the improvement, said the SPC report.

The quality and efficiency of trials keeps improving in China as court personnel are more motivated, according to the report.
