Courts at all levels in China should make the best of their judicial functions and contribute to cracking down organized crimes in accordance with the laws, Supreme People's Court President Zhou Qiang stressed at a promotion meeting for the national campaign against gang-related crimes on Oct 16 in Wuhan, Hubei province.
At the meeting, Zhou affirmed the performances achieved by the courts since the start of the campaign against gangs and organized crimes in January and said the fighting against gang-related crimes is in a crucial period, during which some serious cases were in the phase of prosecution and trial.
He stressed that all courts should be clear about their key work, which includes investigating the features, motions and rules of the gangs in various areas and in different fields and scientifically developing strategies to strike them accurately.
Zhou requires the courts to improve the construction of collegiate bench by making full use of judicial resources and make sure all cases are handled by special groups with professional personnel.
To boost judges' judicial capacity, Zhou suggested opening training courses and lectures and holding group work to discuss gang-related criminal issues.
Departments' cooperation should be promoted and a unified standard to deal with gang-related crimes should be made by units including the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security, Zhou added.
