The Supreme People’s Court has released ten typical maritime case reports of 2017 demonstrating that it gives full play to the role of judicial guarantees in building maritime trade.
Foreign-related maritime cases account for a large proportion of the reports, and involve such matters as disputes over maritime injunctions, freight transport contracts and shipbuilding along the Belt and Road.
All the cases demonstrate the court’s capacity in collecting extraterritorial evidence, checking requirements and standards applicable to foreign laws, and its fairness in protecting legal rights and interests of Chinese and foreign parties.
The cases, whether involving freight transport, insurance or liability for damage help explore and echo the relevant issues in maritime trials and play a guiding role in unifying trial standards and improving the rules of adjudication.
