The head of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) vowed to continue to boost judicial openness and subject courts to the supervision of media and the public on Feb 9.
Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the SPC, emphasized strengthening cooperation and positive interaction between courts and the media at a seminar with the media on Feb 9 in Beijing.
Zhou stressed that courts need to, with media help, safeguard the public's right to know and respond to their concerns.
Concerning the media’s rights to supervise and report, Zhou said that it’s necessary to have open trials and provide execution information to the general public as well as release judicial policies and interpretations.
He expressed his gratitude for media efforts to publicize the achievements of courts in promoting judicial reform and overcoming judgment execution difficulties.
It’s also important to improve media literacy of court personnel for better communication with media organizations and better publicity effect, Zhou said.
Zhou also highlighted the significance of cooperation between judicial departments and media outlets in promoting social equity, justice and legal progress.
He added that it’s necessary to use typical cases to make the public more aware of the rule of law.
