The twenty-first national court conference concluded on Feb 6 in Beijing.
The achievements and experiences of the past five years were outlined in the conference as were the conditions in the new era.
The conference emphasized the importance of prioritizing the practice of the rule of law in the courts’ work.
The conference required demonstration of an innovative spirit to solve the problems restricting judicial development and hampering judicial openness.
And more efforts are needed to solve prominent problems and meet the judicial demands of the general public, the conference said. Judicial openness should be strengthened so as to create positive interactions between courts and media and judicial practice and public opinion.
For this reason, the trial and execution of major cases should be opened to the general public for legal publicity, the conference was told.
It was also put forward at the conference that more should be done to ensure that central government policies and decisions are properly implemented.
Concerning reform, the conference said that fundamental reform should be implemented as a basis of systematic reform and that supervision over reform implementation should be reinforced to gain its benefit.
