Hu Yunteng, chief judge of the Second Circuit Court of China’s Supreme People’s Court (SPC), met with a delegation led by Pussapa Panomyunt, vice president of the Thai Supreme Court, on May 23 in Beijing.
Hu pointed out that China and Thailand have been and are “friendly neighbors”.
Over the years, there have been frequent high-level exchanges between the judicial circles of the two countries; they have made breakthroughs and progress in judicial assistance; and their cooperation has continuously deepened and expanded, said Hu.
Hu described Chinese courts’ organizational structure and trial procedures and the progress of China’s judicial reform. He said that China should not base its judicial reform only on its own practice in China, but should also learn from the experience of other countries, including Thailand.
He hoped that the legal profession and judicial circles in China and Thailand, including lawyers, will learn from each other by cooperating and carrying out exchange programs.
Hu added that the SPC highly values justice in juvenile and family matters, noting that the rate of juvenile delinquency in China has declined for 9 consecutive years since 2008 due to the close attention paid by the State and courts.
Hu hoped to strengthen judicial exchange with Thailand in this field.
Pussapa Panomyunt expressed gratitude for the meeting saying that the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping has promoted understanding and communication between the two countries’ judicial circles.
She said Thai courts appreciated China’s achievements in anti-corruption and judicial reform and looked forward to enhancing cooperation and further maturing their friendship.
After the meeting, Jiang Huiling, director of the SPC’s China Institute of Applied Jurisprudence, delivered a report on the Chinese judicial system and the courts’ work.
