The deputy head of China's top court met with a visiting US delegation on Dec 14 in Beijing.
Jiang Bixin, vice president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China welcomed Diane Wood, chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and introduced China’s court structure and the progress of its judicial reform.
Jiang said China pays a great deal of attention to legal construction and is accelerating the building of a socialist country under the rule of law.
A new system of courts -- to include the circuit courts of the SPC, cross-administrative division courts and intellectual property courts -- is taking shape under the central arrangement, said Jiang.
China is also promoting judicial openness, advancing diversified dispute settlement mechanisms and improving court working efficiency, according to Jiang.
Judicial reform in China focuses on China's reality, said Jiang, adding that it also has reference to the experience and practices of other countries.
Jiang expressed his hope of conducting more exchanges with courts in the US.
Diane Wood said that she hoped the visit will promote bilateral communication in the judicial sector and advance judicial development in both countries.
