The head of China's top court met with a delegation led by Turkey's chief public prosecutor on Nov 23.
Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, welcomed Mehmet Akarca, chief public prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, or the Supreme Court of Appeals of Turkey, saying that cooperation in legal matters between China and Turkey over the past few years has borne fruit.
He hoped the visit of Akarca can bring the relationship between the two countries in the judicial field to a new chapter.
Zhou outlined judicial reform and legal construction in China. He said that China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping as the core, pays a great deal of attention to the building of the legal system and is creating a socialist country under the rule of law.
The SPC has come up with 65 suggestions to push ahead with the reform. The quality of judicial personnel is increasing, and the quality and efficiency of trials are also improving, according to Zhou.
A new round of scientific and technical revolution based on new information technology is unfolding, said Zhou, noting that the Internet has become the driving force of innovative-driven development.
Information technology promotes modern judicial practices. Its rapid development is a powerful support to judicial fairness and judgment efficiency and thus contributes to social equality, said Zhou.
He added that courts in China are taking advantage of the information system and smart services to make online case filing and open access to trial processes and judgment documents a reality.
Zhou said he hoped the two sides can work together to fight terrorism and cross-border crime, and cooperate more fully on the Belt and Road Initiative.
