A judge from the Consiglio Di Stato (Italian for State Council), the highest administrative court in Italy, kicked off his two-week internship at China's courts on Oct 10.
Jiang Bixin, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, met the visiting judge, Ermanno De Francesco, in Beijing.
On behalf of the SPC, Jiang expressed his warm welcome to Francesco, and briefed his guest on the construction and operation of courts in China.
In speaking about the reform of China's legal system, Jiang said China is striving for more dynamism, transparency and efficiency.
Chinese courts are very concerned with judicial democracy and are improving the system of judicial responsibility.
Jiang said Chinese courts' information construction, and especially the application of artificial intelligence in "smart courts", has improved transparency through better processing of procedural documents and judicial announcements.
Francesco introduced the system of the Italian Council of State, and expressed his desire for closer cooperation between the two countries in the judicial sector.
Approved by the secretariat of the Council of State,Francesco came to China to learn about all aspects of China's judicial system, including its trial procedures.
The internship program, aimed at exchanging ideas and experience of judicial practices, started in 2014. Each year, 10 judges from program member states will be offered internships in the courts of other members.
