People’s courts in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region must strive for new achievements in risk prevention and control to serve the region’s development, said Jiang Bixin, vice-president of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), China’s top court.
On Jan 30, Jiang visited the Intermediate People's Court and the Kashgar Reclamation Area People’s Court of the Third Division of the paramilitary Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) in northwest China's Xinjiang.
Jiang praised XPCC courts for their role in maintaining the border region’s stability and fighting terrorism and violence, as well as their accomplishments in trial management, informatization and team building.
Xinjiang’s economic and social development and long-term peace and stability are crucial to China’s overall reform, development and stability, national unity and ethnic harmony, as well as the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative, Jiang noted.
People’s courts should closely follow President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on political and legal work – preventing and controlling risks, serving development, resolving difficult problems and making up for shortcomings. The courts need to enhance judicial capabilities and better perform their duties in keeping social stability, promoting justice and fairness and ensuring that people live and work in peace, said Jiang.
Courts in Xinjiang should adhere to reform and innovation, push ahead with the establishment of a social security risk prevention and control system, accelerate trials of terrorism and violence cases and seriously punish the criminals involved. They should also properly handle various new types of cases and actively resolve conflicts and disputes in order to safeguard Xinjiang’s harmony and stability, he added.
Jiang called on courts across the nation to fulfill their tasks set at a recent meeting on aid to courts in Tibet and Xinjiang, provide support in trials, personnel and project funds and materials, in order to bolster Xinjiang’s development, peace and stability.
Yang Fulin, deputy commander of XPCC and head of the XPCC Party Committee’s political and legal commission, delivered a report on XPCC’s work and achievements in 2015 and set requirements for courts’ work.
Yang vowed that XPCC courts will closely follow Xi’s requirements and work hard to maintain social stability, promote fairness and justice and safeguard harmony in people’s lives.
