Upon invitation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Yang Linping, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, led a delegation to visit Tanzania, Kenya and the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi from Oct 31 to Nov 8.

During the visit, Yang met respectively with Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania Ibrahim Hamis Juma, President of the East African Court of Justice Nestor Kayobera, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kenya Martha Koome, and UN Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the UNEP Elizabeth Maruma Mrema.

Noting that China and Africa enjoy a profound traditional friendship, she said that China's SPC has maintained good cooperative relations with East African countries, such as Tanzania and Kenya, and the UNEP. She mainly introduced China's rule of law development in environment governance and its effective practices in environment-related judicial reform and innovations during the meetings.

This was the first time for China's SPC to visit the East African Court of Justice, the Supreme Court of Kenya and the UNEP. The Chinese side held in-depth exchanges with its counterparts on such topics as promoting green, digital and law-based Belt and Road cooperation to a high standard, and jointly advancing global ecological and environmental governance.
