The Supreme People's Court held a ceremony marking the establishment of an international maritime judicial base in East China's Zhejiang province, the third of its kind, in the Ningbo Maritime Court on Oct 16.

In recent years, the Ningbo Maritime Court has been leading the way among Chinese maritime courts in serving the marine economy, improving hearings and judgment enforcement and increasing service convenience.

The court has received and closed more cases than other Chinese maritime courts for the sixth straight year, while it has also ranked first among Chinese maritime courts in terms of judicial transparency for three consecutive years.

In addition, as the only maritime court in China designated by the top court to hear maritime criminal matters it successfully tried China's first foreign-related maritime criminal case.

The court also established the country's first maritime administrative dispute center and pioneered a new "three-in-one" hearing model, laying a solid foundation for its function as an international maritime judicial base.
