The Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) are willing to improve mutual learning to promote world intellectual property right (IPR) protection.

An AIPLA delegation, led by its Executive Director Lisa Jorgenson, visited the Intellectual Property Court in Beijing on June 19.

Wang Chuang, deputy chief judge of the Intellectual Property Court, gave a brief introduction to the court's mission, personnel allocation, operation procedures and informatization construction.

He pointed out that IPR protection is highly valued in China and the establishment of the Intellectual Property Court was a significant part of the judicial reform which improves the unification of trial criteria, improves trial efficiency, strengthens judicial credibility and enhances the influence of Chinese IPR trials. The court also plays a role in helping China participate in the international judicial protection of IPR.

In the past 40 years of opening-up and reform, Chinese courts highly valued the equal protection of IPR and kept strengthening IPR protection, which indicated China's determination in the field. IPR protection currently has become a national policy in China, Wang said.

During the seminar, AIPLA Executive Director Lisa Jorgenson showed her gratitude for the Chinese part's warm welcome. She said that China's achievements in IPR had great impact to the world. This is the ninth visit from AIPLA Chinese Group to the Supreme People's Court. She was impressed by high quality of judge team, efficient trial procedures and advanced court technology.

Both sides expressed their willingness to increase communication and exchanges, learn from each other and jointly promote the development of world IPR protection.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed issues including court's jurisdiction, scope of antitrust cases and IPR interim injunction as well as its security measures.

Also attending the seminar were Zhou Xiang, deputy chief judge of the Intellectual Property Court, presiding judges and deputy-director of the court's litigation service center.

Before the seminar, the AIPLA delegation visited the litigation service center and the First Tribunal of the court and watched a short film, learning about the background and basic function of the court and its informatization construction.
