Meng Jianzhu, head of China's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, met with Mark Sedwill, British prime minister's national security adviser, in Beijing on July 20.

Meng said, this year marks the 45th anniversary since the two countries established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.

Not long ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with British Prime Minister Theresa May in Hamburg and conducted fruitful bilateral talks.

Meng said China is willing to work together with the UK to exchange ideas and improve political mutual trust.

Both sides can promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields and push the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new height, said Meng.

Meng said, he hopes the two sides can deepen cooperation in advancing security dialogue mechanism and fighting terrorism, cyber security and cross-border crimes.

Mark Sedwill echoed Meng, saying that both sides should stick to their overall direction and make good use of the "golden age" between China and the UK.

He said the UK is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, including trade, investment, people-to-people exchanges and security.
