China's top lawmakers will continue to strengthen legislation on environmental protection to help win the fight against pollution, said Zhang Yesui, a spokesman for the first session of the 13th National People's Congress.

Zhang said at a news conference in Beijing on March 4 that the NPC Standing Committee will continue to focus on environmental protection efforts and plans to make laws on the prevention and handling of soil pollution and amend the law on solid waste pollution.

The committee will also launch inspection tours to check the enforcement of the laws on air pollution and marine environmental protection, Zhang said.

The spokesman noted that the nation has made many strides in environmental protection since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in late 2012 and the achievements are visible and remarkable.

Meanwhile, China's legislators have also placed a great deal of attention to the legislation and enforcement supervision for laws pertaining to environmental protection, he added.
