Zhang Jun, chief justice and president of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of China, attended the opening session of the 13th International Legal Forum of the Asia-Pacific Region and delivered remarks via video link on Sept 22.

Zhang noted that the forum has become an important platform for judges and experts in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss legal practices and explore solutions to economic disputes since its inception in 2007. He emphasized China has always been an active advocate and a steadfast practitioner in Asia-Pacific cooperation, adding that the Global Governance Initiative put forward at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting earlier this month offers a new Chinese solution to addressing global challenges and improving global governance.

Zhang stressed that the SPC stands ready to work with all participating countries to uphold the international rule of law, safeguard fairness and justice, and strengthen judicial exchanges and cooperation. Such efforts, he noted, will jointly build a more just and equitable global governance system, and provide judicial safeguard for advancing an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive and beneficial economic globalization, while contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

The forum was hosted by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. Participants exchanged views and shared experience on a wide range of topics, including protecting the rights and interests of parties engaged in international economic activities, ensuring fair competition, addressing issues in taxation, customs, and intellectual property, and promoting consistency in judicial practices.

Acting President of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Yuri Ivanenko also addressed the opening ceremony.
