Zhang Jun, president of the SPC, emphasized that high-quality handling those suggestions and proposals is essential to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of adjudications and enforcement of judgments. During the meeting, Deng Xiuming, executive vice-president of the SPC, reported on progress made in handling suggestions in 2024.

This year, the SPC was tasked with handling 640 suggestions and proposals from national lawmakers and political advisors, up 18 percent compared to 2024, Deng said. These suggestions and proposals focus on fostering a law-based business environment, enhancing judicial protection of intellectual property rights, promoting the establishment of diversified dispute resolution mechanisms, and improving foreign-related rule of law, he said, adding they will be handled by 25 specific departments of the SPC.

Addressing the meeting, Zhang said that the practice of whole-process people's democracy is an ongoing endeavor, and the people’s courts must proactively accept the supervision of NPC deputies, CPPCC members and the people over their daily work.

He said that the areas of concern highlighted by NPC deputies and CPPCC members are highly aligned with the plans of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and handling them with high quality is a political responsibility of the people's courts.

Zhang emphasized the need to focus on substantive problem-solving by converting the suggestions and proposals into effective measures to enhance the efficiency of judicial work.

He further noted that the increased number of suggestions and proposals reflects higher expectations, increased attention and stronger support from lawmakers and political advisors towards the work of the courts, he underlined the necessity of implementation, with leading officials duly performing their roles in carrying out follow-up supervision, enhancing coordination and achieving full-cycle management.

Effective practices in handling suggestions and proposals should be summarized and mechanisms thereof optimized, Zhang said, so that all the suggestions and proposals can be handled satisfactorily, which in turn will showcase courts’ determination to accept supervision, improve work and practice whole-process people's democracy with tangible results and effectiveness.
