The Supreme People's Court (SPC) convened an expanded meeting of its Leading Party Members Group on Sept 4 to review a report on the recently-concluded judicial inspection campaign. The meeting, presided over by Zhang Jun, secretary of the SPC's Leading Party Members Group and president of the SPC, focused on the outcomes of recent judicial inspections.

Starting from July 15, eight teams, all led by veteran officials from the SPC, carried out 15-day inspections in high courts of Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, Guangdong, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, as well as Guangxi Zhuang and Ningxia Hui autonomous regions.

The inspections were centered around the efficiency and quality of the judicial work of the courts, with a keen eye on implementing the decisions and plans made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, including aspects of political development, capability building and professional ethics.

The judicial inspections were problem-oriented, with over 80 percent of the inspection report dedicated to specific cases, incidents and statistics highlighting areas of concern.

Addressing the meeting, Zhang emphasized that the issues identified during the judicial inspections, regardless of their nature or scope, underscore the potential for further integration of political and professional development in support of modernizing judicial work to serve Chinese modernization.

Zhang urged the inspected courts to conscientiously rectify the problems identified in the inspections, and courts at all levels to scrutinize themselves for similar problems and make rectifications accordingly.

Zhang said the SPC should take the lead in rectifying problems identified in lower-level courts, with each department of the SPC actively assuming responsibility of addressing relevant problems, providing robust supervision and guidance to ensure the unfaltering implementation of the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee within the judiciary.
