In response to the special need for specialized fact-finding in environmental resource trials, the Supreme People's Court has formulated and promulgated a regulation on the participation of jurors with specialized knowledge in those trials. The 16-article regulation, which includes the scope of cases eligible for such participation, the qualifications and sources of potential jurors as well as the composition of the collegial panel involving them, and their performance of duties, was released on July 27.

The participation of jurors with specialized knowledge in trials of environmental resource cases meets the requirements of building a specialized system for environmental resource trials, and is of great significance for enriching the necessary specialized fact-finding methods and properly hearing those cases according to law.
