Vice-president of China’s top court visits Cyprus
Upon invitation of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, Shen Liang, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, led a group to visit Cyprus from June 26 to 30. During the visit, he met with the country's Minister of Justice and Public Order Anna Koukkides-Prokopiou, Prosecutor General George L. Savvides, President of the Supreme Court Antonis Liatsou, and President of the Nicosia District Court, respectively.
Shen said that China and Cyprus enjoy a deep traditional friendship and that China attaches great importance to the bilateral relations. The SPC of China is ready to take this visit as a starting point to carry out pragmatic cooperation with the judicial organs of Cyprus, he said. He briefed the Cypriot side about China's rule of law development, judicial reform, judicial protection of human rights, and anti-corruption work.
The Cypriot side attached great importance to Shen's visit. Liatsou said that despite the differences in the respective national conditions, Cyprus and China have huge potential in judicial exchanges and cooperation, which they look forward to in the future. He introduced the legal system and the ongoing judicial reform of the country during the meeting.
Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao accompanied the group throughout the visit.
