The Supreme People's Court (SPC) held a work meeting on promoting the implementation of the Yellow River Protection Law among courts in provinces and regions along the river on March 28, in Lyuliang, Central China's Shanxi province.

The meeting adopted an initiative on promoting the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin through strong judicial services.

The initiative integrated the ecological, economic and cultural values of environmental resources of the region into an overall judicial protection and systematic governance system, based on accurate understanding of the new situation and tasks facing the current trial work related to the environmental resources in the Yellow River basin and the fundamental principles of the Yellow River Protection Law.

The initiative is composed of seven aspects: attaching great importance to ecological protection and restoration, strengthening conservation and the intensive use of water resources, promoting water-sediment balance and flood controls, inheriting and promoting Yellow River culture, serving the high-quality development of the Yellow River basin, strengthening collaborative governance of the region, and fostering a diversified co-governance pattern of environmental protection. It provides effective guidance for people’s courts at all levels in the region, allowing them to fully tap their judicial functions and comprehensively strengthen judicial protection in the region.
