On Nov 4, Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, met with Roger Linden, president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) of Luxembourg, via video link.

Zhou, also China's chief justice, noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Luxembourg. The China-Luxembourg relationship has seen steady development over the years and yielded fruitful progress on pragmatic cooperation in various fields. He said that China's SPC is ready to jointly work with the SCJ of Luxembourg to handle common issues in judicial fields and contribute to the long-term development of bilateral relations.

Zhou briefed Linden on the recently concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), as well as China's judicial system, judicial reforms and application of information technology. He said the 20th CPC National Congress made major strategic arrangements for upholding the rule of law in all respects and promoting China's law-based governance, which is of far-reaching significance. Courts in China have striven to give full play to the functional role of trials, deepen judicial reforms and advance smart court construction, and have accelerated the building of a fair, efficient and authoritative socialist judicial system, in a bid to safeguard social justice and people's well-being.

He added that China's SPC is prepared to deepen cooperation and exchanges with the SCJ of Luxembourg in areas such as informatization construction, judicial openness, personnel training, case study exchanges and the uniform application of laws, so as to jointly promote the progress of rule of law, the high-quality development of the Belt and Road, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Linden lauded China's achievements in rule of law construction, judicial reform and the informatization in courts' work. He briefed Zhou on Luxembourg's judicial system and judicial reform, and expressed the hope to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the top courts of the two countries through sharing experience and extending cooperation, in a bid to achieve new progress in judicial undertakings of both countries.

Vice presidents of China's SPC Yang Wanming and Yang Linping, and China's Ambassador to Luxembourg Hua Ning, were present at the meeting.
