The second China-Singapore case study forum on international commercial trials was held at the National Judges College (NJC) on Oct 25. Yang Wanming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, attended the forum and delivered the opening remarks. Liu Guixiang, member of the SPC judicial committee (vice-ministerial level), delivered the closing remarks. Justices from the Supreme Court of Singapore Andrew Phang Boon, Steven Chong Horng Siong and Kwek Mean Luck attended the forum.

Yang reviewed the cooperation and exchanges between China and Singapore in judicial areas and introduced the progress made by China’s SPC in foreign-related commercial and maritime trials. He believed that the forum demonstrated the mutual trust between the top courts of the two countries and is bound to boost new progress on rule of law governance in both countries. He looked forward to further deepening judicial cooperation between the two countries, and seeing more efforts to enhance the friendship and towards the joint building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Liu said that the case studies at the forum reflected the two countries' perspectives and handling of hot legal issues in practice, and laid a foundation for greater convergence and closer cooperation. He looked forward to further understanding and trusting of each other's legal systems through more efficient offline communication channels, allowing for a higher level of judicial exchanges and cooperation, he said.

Justices Chong and Kwek fully recognized the significance of the forum. Attendees held thorough exchanges and interactions on maritime law, arbitration law and corporate law, which contributed valuable judicial experience and judgment rules for both parties.

The forum was jointly hosted by China's NJC and the Singapore Judicial College. Over 40 representatives from judicial and academic fields in Singapore attended the forum. Justices from China's SPC, legal experts, and judges from lower level courts in China attended the forum online and offline.
