SPC releases new typical cases promoting core socialist values
The Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Feb 23 published a series of typical civil cases that embodied core socialist values.
Core socialist values comprise a set of moral principles summarized by central authorities as prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship.
These were the second batch of such cases following the first release in May 2020. They included civil cases involving the right of residency after the grandfather gifted his house to grandson, parents’ financial support to adult children, the refund obligation for advance payment involved in caring for empty-nesters, or seniors living away from their adult children, and personal objection to elevator installation in old communities.
The SPC has been promoting the core socialist values in judicial interpretations and policies, typical cases as well as publicity campaigns since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.
Data showed that during the 2017-2021 period, Chinese courts handled more than 1 million first-instance civil cases which involved the core socialist values in their legal interpretations, seeing an average yearly increase of 24.31 percent.
These cases fell into 132 categories of disputes involving private lending, sales contract, and credit card.
