SPC called on judicial guarantees for high-quality BRI development
Tao Kaiyuan, vice-president of China's Supreme People's Court (SPC), attended and addressed the China Forum on International Legal Cooperation (2021) held on Nov 12 in Beijing.
She said Chinese courts have achieved fruitful results in fields such as combating transnational crime, resolving cross-border disputes, deepening judicial assistance, and promoting high-level judicial visits, together with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
High-quality BRI development requires judicial guarantees from related countries, she said, adding that these countries need to uphold multilateralism, safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core as well as the international order underpinned by international law,, and provide equal protection for the legitimate rights and interests of both Chinese and foreign parties.
She called on countries involved in the BRI to develop and improve rules for the settlement of disputes related to the BRI through reform and innovation, adhere to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, continue to deepen international judicial exchanges and cooperation, and build a new platform for international judicial cooperation.
The forum was organized by the China Law Society. Representatives from 20 countries and regions, including China, Russia, Brazil, and international organizations attended the forum both online and offline.
