SPC president calls for targeted judicial services for 'six guarantees' effort

The Supreme People's Court (SPC) held a symposium attended by representatives of central committees of all democratic parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) as well as nonparty individuals on May 7.

Zhou Qiang, president of the SPC, delivered a speech at the symposium, calling for adhering to the system of socialist consultative democracy and providing strong judicial support to ensure stability in employment, financial operations, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and expectations and ensure security in job, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains and the normal functioning of primary-level governments.

Zhou said that over the last year, Chinese courts have consolidated and innovated their liaison and communication mechanism with democratic parties, the ACFIC and nonparty people, improved handling of their suggestions and proposals, and increased the scope and depth of democratic supervision.

He called on courts to focus on the task of the six guarantees and six stabilities, conduct impartial and efficient trials according to law, and provide targeted judicial services for coordinated progress in epidemic prevention and economic and social development.

According to him, courts should promote resumption of work and production while stabilizing epidemic prevention by severely punishing epidemic-related crimes and properly trying and enforcing epidemic-related cases; strengthen judicial protection of property rights and strive to foster a stable, fair, transparent and predictable law-based business environment; deepen comprehensive judicial reform, promote the building of the smart court system, strengthen judicial protection of people's livelihoods, and promote the modernization of the adjudicatory system and capacity.

Zhou said he hopes that central committees of all the democratic parties, the ACFIC and nonparty individuals will continue their support for the work of people's courts, actively raise suggestions, and pool their wisdom and strength so at to jointly promote the building of rule of law in China.
