Protecting entrepreneurs' rights was highlighted at a seminar during an inspection by Zhang Shuyuan, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), in Yunnan province on Nov 9.

At the seminar, Zhang listened to suggestion of 17 representatives from the private economy and delivered a speech on providing judicial guarantee in that area.

He said courts at various levels should understand the importance of the private economy in the new era and the significance of protecting entrepreneurs' personal and property rights.

Strengthening judicial protection and learning from the previous experience of IP-related cases will help create a law-governed innovation and entrepreneurship environment.

He stressed that courts should optimize judicial policies and interpretations and implement regulations.

He added that cases related to business bankruptcies and labor disputes should be properly handled and more intensified punishments should be given to violations of intellectual property rights to encourage private enterprises to realize industrial upgrading and transformation through innovation.

Also present at the seminar was Hou Jianjun, president of the Yunnan Provincial High People's Court.
