Strengthening drug control was stressed during a provincial inspection by Li Shaoping, deputy director of the China National Narcotics Control Commission and vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), on Nov 9 in Fujian province.

During his visit, Li said government departments should cooperate with the public and non-government institutions to optimize drug control and enhance enforcement according to regulations.

Drug control has been a highly important issue since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party in November 2012.

Li added that there is a need to increase attention to campaigns such as drug control education and reducing crimes related to narcotics, psychotropic drugs, toxic drugs for medical use and precursors and chemicals used in production of narcotics.

Also present at the inspection were Tian Xiangli, vice-governor of Fujian province and director of the Fujian Provincial National Narcotics Control Commission; Wu Xielin, president of the Fujian Provincial Higher People's Court and staff at the SPC and the Ministry of Public Security.
