Beijing's heaviest storms in 60 years caused a wide range of damages and farming communities in the surrounding countryside were adversely affected.

In Jiawu county, one such instance involved damaged property and the arbitration of the local court, a conflict which was resolved on Aug 26.

The plaintiffs, Zhang and Ma, began renting land in their village to Mr. Li in Aug 2013. Li later built greenhouses on the site.

Following the deluge on July 20, the mud walls supporting the greenhouses collapsed, partly a result of Mr. Li’s inadequate maintenance of the walls.

In due course, local judges assessed the site of the damage on Aug 26 and came to a prompt and just conclusion.

Li was ordered to compensate Ma 4,000 yuan ($600).
